New readers, please check out the basics before leaving any comments.
I haven't been posting much recently, so I figured I'd try to add another (mostly) regular feature. Because I am almost completely unoriginal (hi Andres), I thought I'd go with some Raptor focused trivia.
Due to the fact that I only have one team to pull from, I'm not necessarily going to limit myself to Wins Produced related queries; instead I'll try to find interesting and novel questions.
The question:
There have been six players who have managed to earn a regular season triple-double while wearing a Raptors uniform. Listed in reverse chronological order, they are: Alvin Williams, Mark Jackson, Charles Oakley, Vince Carter, Marcus Camby, and Damon Stoudamire.
It's certainly been a long time since the last one of these - ten seasons in fact. So that got me thinking: which Raptors have been close to getting triple-doubles, but never earned one while playing for Toronto? Instead of going the typical route and looking at players who were one point, rebound, assist, steal, or block away from a triple-double, I'm going to try something different. What I want to know is, on any given night, which players were capable of getting a triple-double? Excluding the six players above, which Raptors have managed to hit highs of ten or more in at least three of the five statistical categories during the same season?
Read that carefully; a player who manages to have at least one game with ten or more points, at least one game with ten or more rebounds, and at least one game with ten or more assists - all during the same season - qualifies under these conditions. You'd think that this would be easier to do, but it's not a very large group - in fact, there are six of these players as well.
Three of the players are relatively easy to get, but the other three are a little bit harder. See if you can get them without resorting to checking out game logs on Basketball-Reference!
Answer Update - highlight the space below to see the answers to this week's question:
Keon Clark, Doug Christie, Hedo Turkoglu, Mike James, Oliver Miller, and Alvin Robertson
- Devin
Mike James, Morris Peterson, Hedo Turkoglu, Jalen Rose, Keon Clark (over 10 blocks), Doug Christie
ReplyDeleteEvan:
ReplyDeleteGood job on James, Turk, Mr. Christie, and Clark (and you got the fact that he did it with blocks, too). Those are the easy ones.
But Peterson and Rose aren't correct. Peterson has never had more than 8 assists in a game during his career, and while Jalen Rose did hit 10 assists and 10 rebounds in a game, he never managed to do both in the same season while he was with the Raptors.
The last two are hard - I didn't get them either.
Anthony Parker, Jose Calderon?
ReplyDeleteSam:
ReplyDeleteParker's had 9 assists four times in his career, but never 10.
Calderon's had 9 rebounds three times, but never 10.
So close! Those are the next most logical guesses, but they just didn't make it.
Keep trying!
Chris Bosh for one. Tmac for 2.
ReplyDeleteArturo:
ReplyDeleteAgain, close but no cigar. Bosh has managed to get 9 assists only once in his career, and never 10. He's also hit 6 blocks three times and 7 steals once.
T-Mac has had 10 or more assists in a game 40 times in his career, but never while playing for the Raptors. He also had 7 blocks once while he was in Toronto, but never managed to get 5 or more steals.
Maybe there's a hint in my newest post....
I will take another stab. Some original Raptor classics.
ReplyDeleteOliver Miller, Popeye Jones.
Evan:
ReplyDeletePopeye Jones only managed 5 steals and 5 assists while he was with Toronto (obviously he made the rebounds!). But...Oliver Miller is correct! He hit 10 assists in a game against (who else) the Cavs.
He also managed to get 9 blocks in a game once (one shy of a triple-double) and had two other games of 9 assists (both one shy of a triple-double). I had no idea Miller was capable of putting up those kinds of numbers!
But we're still missing the last one...again, maybe there's a hint somewhere in my latest post....
Devin,
ReplyDeleteAlright cheating and just gonna throw out 3
Shawn Marion seems most likely, he was still productive in Tor.
Mark Jackson? Old but still a good player.
Camby? He never had a complete game in TOR but he is pretty versatile, maybe he was just waiting to put it together?
Dre:
ReplyDeleteMark Jackson and Camby were two of the six players who managed to get a triple-double!
Marion got the points and the rebounds, but only managed to hit 6 assists once during his short stay, and never hit 5 steals or blocks.
It looks like I'm going to squeak out a victory on this one....
Alvin Robertson
ReplyDeleteAnd Anonymous snatches victory from the jaws of defeat! Alvin Robertson is indeed the final answer.
ReplyDeleteGood work guys - I'll have another question up later today/tomorrow.
