Just what the Raps need

New readers, please check out the basics before leaving any comments.

Yes, the fabled Carmelo Anthony trade supposedly finally happened. But apparently the Nuggets aren't totally happy with newly acquired Danilo Gallinari - here's what ESPN had to say about it:
Denver may also be working on plans for newly acquired players Danilo Gallinari and Raymond Felton.

League sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher that the Nuggets are not expected to keep Gallinari once their three-team trade is completed.
ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reported that the New Jersey Nets may be interested in acquiring the perimeter-shooting forward but the market for the Italian may also include the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors.

Really? One deep-shooting, poor rebounding, 6'10"+ Italian forward isn't enough for the Raps?

Well actually, he's a much better shooter than anyone else on the team right now, and he would give the team another three-point shooter (which the team desperately needs). But if the Raptors do acquire him, please, please, PLEASE play him at small forward and DeRozan at shooting guard! A front court of Bargnani and Gallinari would probably shatter the team record for fewest rebounds in a game, which is 24 - keep that number handy if Gallinari ever starts at PF in Toronto.

  1. I was really upset to read Doug Smith's article this morning:

"DeMar DeRozan, Ed Davis, Amir Johnson, Andrea Bargnani, Jose Calderon and Jerryd Bayless are seen as integral parts of the franchise’s future and it would have to be a blockbuster for Colangelo to surrender any of them."

I should really just start cheering for a new team, as the Raptors are just being sabotaged. This will be a long 4-5 years.

  2. Man, cant we just get real ball players in this town?
This is harsh but we need to trade the Italian!!!
We need to get a real center if we want to compete and build on the young core of players we have...otherwise all the first round player we'll draft will just stay here till they;ve built a solid rep to move on to better contenders

  3. Obviously he'd be played at the SF spot.

If you watch basketball you know that Gallinari is a 3-man ... why would that even be a question ... especially on a team with Bargnani, Ed Davis and Amir as a part of the future.

  4. And if you watched Danilo D-up on LeBron last time the HEAT played the Knicks, you may think differently about the generic "white Euro shooters can't play defense" mindset.

Well, that's what I'd hope, but when Turkoglu was in Toronto he didn't always play at SF. Most of the time he did, but not always. I could see the Raptors putting Bargnani, Gallinari, DeRozan, Weems, and Calderon on the court together for spurts, which would be disastrous. Yes, the Raptors are pretty stacked at PF at the moment...but then why did the team just acquire James Johnson from the Bulls? Something's up.

I actually never said anything about the whole "European players can't play defense" stereotype. In fact, I didn't even use the word 'defense' once in my post.
